Charity Day at the 2010 AT&T National Recognizes Tournament Beneficiaries

Charity activities include donating gallery passes to Philadelphia youth organizations, the AT&T National Book Drive and Tickets for Charity.


Newtown Square, Pa. - Tuesday at the 2010 AT&T National is all about the kids! As a way to support and recognize the beneficiaries of the tournament and local Philadelphia area youth-based organizations, AT&T National officials have designated June 29, 2010 as Charity Day. Activities include donating hundreds of gallery passes on behalf of the tournament to a variety of local youth organizations, the Boys & Girls Club of Philadelphia, Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, the Tiger Woods Foundation and participating Tickets for Charity organizations.


In addition to complimentary tickets, the tournament is conducting a book drive. Any fan who donates a new or gently used children's book to the AT&T National Book Drive, which benefits Philadelphia Reads, will receive a complimentary Tuesday gallery pass to attend the exciting Fourth of July golf tournament. All donated books will be collected by Philadelphia Reads volunteers and delivered to the Children's Book Bank in Philadelphia. The Children's Book Bank houses a large collection of donated books provided free of charge to teachers at schools, day care centers and other educational sites citywide. 


Tickets for Charity, which includes more than 20 local youth organizations, is a tournament program designed to benefit local non-profit organizations in the greater Philadelphia area. For every AT&T National ticket sold by participating Tickets for Charity organizations, 50 percent of the proceeds benefit that specific charity. The remaining 50 percent supports AT&T National beneficiaries.


In addition to the Charity Day events, proceeds from the AT&T National benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia, the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation and the Tiger Woods Foundation.


The AT&T National, held June 29-July 4, will welcome 120 of the PGA TOUR's finest players to Aronimink Golf Club, a 7,237-yard course in Newtown Square, Pa. Players including K.J. Choi, Jim Furyk, Sean O'Hair, Vijay Singh, Hunter Mahan and defending champion Tiger Woods, will compete for the $6.2 million purse. Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation
Founded in 2006, the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation (formerly the Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation) is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing about positive change and helping the lives of those in need ONE SOUL AT A TIME. The JBJSF transforms lives and neighborhoods through funding and the creation of programs and partnerships that support innovative community efforts to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.  For more information visit www.jbjsoulfoundation.org. The tournament has identified two specific programs within the Soul Foundation's grant portfolio to support, the Hopeworks Program in Camden, NJ and Project H.O.M.E's Honickman Learning Center and Comcast Technology Labs.

Hopeworks 'N Camden empowers youth to identify and develop their dreams and own their future.  While Camden's public high schools have a dropout rate close to 70 percent, Hopeworks motivates youth to learn through technology training in website design.  Youth participating in this training have earned over 1,500 college credits.  Upon completing this training, over 250 youth have earned jobs in Hopeworks' two business: web site design and development, and geographic information systems.  Beyond training and jobs, Hopeworks enrolls its youth in college, provides residential housing and offers corporate internships.  All youth at Hopeworks continuously engage in one-on-one tutoring in reading and math, as well as an intensive leadership development program.  Working with over 1,200 youth, Hopeworks enhances the lives of the inner-city Camden youth by expanding the educational and career development opportunities available to them.
The mission of Project H.O.M.E.'s Honickman Learning Center and Comcast Technology Labs is to address the root causes of homelessness and poverty: the lack of adequate educational and employment opportunities.  This state-of-the-art, 38,000-square-foot technology center in North Philadelphia provides programming focused on literacy, technology and enterprise for over 1,500 low-income and homeless children and adults each year.  For more information, go to www.projecthome.org.


Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Tiger Woods Foundation
Since 1996 the Tiger Woods Foundation has reached more than 10 million young people by delivering unique experiences and innovative educational opportunities for youth worldwide. Specific programs of the Foundation include The Tiger Woods Learning Center, a one-of-a-kind, 35,000-square-foot education facility custom-built for the underserved youth of Southern California. Everything at the Learning Center is about active participation and hands-on learning. Students in grades 5-12 build and launch rockets, land planes via flight simulator, operate the DNA sequencer and create their own animated films. Tiger's Action Plan is a collection of curricula distributed to students nationwide. The Foundation has also helped send 25 bright, young students to college through the Earl Woods Scholarship Program. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years, with students chosen based on demonstrated financial need and a proven commitment to community service.
