2010 AT&T National Welcomes Golf's Finest to Aronimink Golf Club in Philadelphia

June 16, 2010

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa.  (June 16, 2010) - Experience counts, especially on the pro golf tour, which could pay off at the 2010 AT&T National, where some of the most seasoned players around are likely to be in the hunt for the prestigious title June 29-July 4 at Aronimink Golf Club.

Jim Furyk, 40, already a two-time tournament winner this year, leads an extensive list of veterans in the field who are not just long on ability, but also in experience.  Still, Furyk has a lot of outstanding company at the AT&T National.  He shares the field with seasoned standouts including Presidents Cup mainstay Justin Leonard, 37; Hall of Famer Vijay Singh, 47; former AT&T National champion K.J. Choi, 40; long-hitting Harrison Frazar, 38; five-time winner Billy Mayfair, 43; straight-hitting Scott McCarron, 44; recent tournament winner Jerry Kelly, 43; perennial fan favorite Boo Weekley, 36; 2010 tournament winner Cameron Beckman, 40; and defending champion Tiger Woods, who turns 35 in December.

As for Furyk, he is a 15-time tournament winner on the PGA Tour, and seems to be peaking.  Furyk, who was born in West Chester, PA., has won this year at the Transitions Championship and the Verizon Heritage to rise to No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking.  One of the straightest drivers and best putters on the pro tour, Furyk knows he probably will be regarded as the home town favorite and wants to put on a good show.

"I think my confidence level is obviously very high," Furyk said recently.  "And we're getting to the part of the year where I really start smiling ear-to-ear because I really like all the golf tournaments coming up.

"It's only the second time in my career I've had two victories in a year," he said.  "I've had a lot of fun this year."

Facing off against these vets will be talented young guns Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan, Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney, Ryan Moore, Kevin Na, Vaughn Taylor and Ricky Barnes. All are looking to make life difficult for their more experienced peers at Aronimink on the challenging, 7,237-yard Donald Ross-designed masterpiece.

At stake at the AT&T National is prize money of $6.2 million, with $1.116 million going to the winner, plus an invitation to next year's Masters, important Ryder Cup and Fed Ex Cup points and a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.

The AT&T National, the 28th official stop on the 2010 PGA Tour schedule, benefits the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia and the Tiger Woods Foundation.
