Designed to positively impact the communities where PGA TOUR tournaments are held, this unique fundraising opportunity allows local charitable organizations to partner with The Barclays in order to promote the sale of tournament tickets. 100 percent of the net proceeds from ticket sales are donated to charity. In 2011, the third year for the program, TICKETS Fore CHARITY was again a tremendous success raising over $333,000 for over 100 charitable partners throughout metropolitan New York and New Jersey. The First Tee of Essex County In August of 2006, The First Tee of Essex County was formed through a partnership between the Metropolitan Golf Association, New Jersey PGA and New Jersey State Golf Association. Located at Weequahic Park Golf Course in the heart of Newark's South Ward, the organization converted a blighted former dumping site into a beautiful Junior Learning Facility to serve the youth of Essex County. This facility is a versatile practice area that can be used for short game instruction, a limited flight driving range and a three-hole short course to introduce youth people to the game and its positive values. The American Red Cross on Long Island helps ensure that residents of the Greater new York Region are never alone. Last year, nearly 5,000 Long Islanders turned to the Red Cross for shelter during Hurricane Irene. Nearly a thousand more needed food, shelter and emotional support due to local disasters like home fires. Additionally, more than 150,000 residents learned how to save a life through training in skills like first aid, CPR, and water safety. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. ![]() The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Northern New Jersey Chapter: The American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey responds to over 350 disasters each year throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic and Warren counties. Their chapter services include disaster relief, blood services, disaster and emergency preparedness training, health and safety courses, military and international services, Braille transciption and volunteer and youth opportunities. With service centers in Fairfield, Ridgewood, Jersey City, Morristown and Belvidere, they have the ability to assist the 3.5 million people residing in the communities they serve. During the 2008 fiscal year, their chapter provided relief for 2,580 individuals and families displaced by disaster. They trained over 65,000 people in disaster response and health and safety training and collected 5,735 pints of life saving blood. The Red Cross is led by volunteers and that is why they are able to make such effective use of donor dollars. They depend on the generosity of the American public through volunteerism and donations. The American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey is chartered by the U.S. Congress, is not a government agency and receives little or no government funding. The NHT's mission is to receive and administer gifts, grants and contributions to further public programs for parks, recreation, cultural, land and water conservation and historic preservation purposes of the State of New York. The NHT accomplishes its mission by accepting donations, raising funds, and through cooperative programs and projects with its agency partners: New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP), Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Department of State (DOS). The NHT also partners with a number of other public and private entities, not-for-profits and friends groups to secure and administer funding. Located on the campus of the Cohen Children's Medical Center of new York (formerly Schneider Children's Hospital), the House accommodates families in a warm and supportive environment. Since opening in 1986, approximately 16,000 families from the United States and more than 80 countries around the would have been served.
