Shell Oil Company

Shell Oil Company has been the title sponsor for Houston's PGA TOUR stop since 1992 and charitable donations have been a big part of the relationship. Houston Golf Association golf-related activities have  generated more than $51.5 million since 1992 when Shell Oil Company became title sponsor.

At the 2011 tournament Shell Oil Company and Houston Golf Association officials announced a 5-year contract extension through 2017. With a 20-year partnership with HGA, Shell is now the third-longest serving title sponsor on the PGA TOUR.

Shell Oil Company and Houston Golf Association have focused on youth-oriented charities since the two became corporate partners. The most recent program involving the HGA and Shell Oil Company is The First Tee of Greater Houston Chapter, which has facilities adjacent to Redstone Golf Club and at Houston Oaks Country Club.

The First Tee of Greater Houston facility is built on land donated by The Redstone Companies, features a three-hole, par-3 course and 6,720-square foot building. The campus has been named in honor of David Shindeldecker, the late president and CEO of The Redstone Companies. The building has been named the Dick Harmon Learning Center in honor of the longtime Houston teaching professional who passed away in February of 2006.

Volunteerism is a key bonding agent for Shell Oil Company and the Houston Golf Association. Both Shell Oil and Houston Golf Association have received national awards from the Points of Light Foundation for outstanding volunteerism. Former President George Herbert Walker Bush made a special dual presentation at the 2001 Shell Houston Open.

In 2011 Roger Dauzat of Houston received The First Tee Volunteer of the Year Award. Joe Louis Barrow, president and CEO of the The First Tee, presented Dauzat with the Shell Oil Company George H.W. Bush Volunteer of the Year Award in ceremonies at the network annual meeting in San Antonio.

Shell Oil Company remains extremely active at the tournament. Each year one hole is marshaled by Shell employees.

Houston Golf Association's Youth Programs also receive funding. The First Tee of Greater Houston, the HGA Academic Scholarship Fund and Junior Golf are recipients as well as the following ongoing benefiting charities:

  • Acres Home Youth Association
  • Boys and Girls Harbor, Inc.
  • Chinquapin School
  • Cenikor Foundation, Inc.
