Pete Dye Classic Announces Volunteer Push

June 29, 2007

Bridgeport, WV - As the Nationwide Tour winds its way through an exciting schedule, plans for the Pete Dye Classic are under way.  The Pete Dye Classic is hosted by the Pete Dye Golf Club in Clarksburg, WV which boasts 7,308 yards of classic Pete Dye challenge.  This year's tournament is slated for August 2oth-26th with all four rounds being televised by The Golf Channel.  "We are the only event in the state of West Virginia to be televised nationally for four days," said Ash Child, Assistant Tournament Director.  "It is a very nice way to showcase the State of West Virginia and to display it to the rest of the world."

As an extention of the PGA TOUR, the Nationwide Tour identifies and transitions those select golfers whose games are ready to compete and win on golf's biggest stage.  In the past three years the Pete Dye Classic has hosted a number of players who have since went on to win on the PGA TOUR; Jason Gore (2005 84 Lumber Classic), Boo Weekly (2007 Verizon Heritage), Charley Hoffman (2007 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic), and Nick Watney (2007 Zurich Classic of New Orleans).

As all net proceeds generated from every PGA TOUR event are distributed among charities, the Pete Dye Classic will again aid in the development of local charities through the outreach of West Virginia Golf Charities, Inc.  "The PGA TOUR is the only professional organization in which all revenue goes directly to charity," said Child.  WVGC, Inc. seeks to advance the interests, health, welfare, and education of the children in our community and throughout the State of West Virginia.

In addition to providing a challenging course and funding to charities the tournament also offers plenty of volunteer opportunities.  Volunteers will aid in running the tournament, being out on the course, holding quiet signs, acting as standard bearers and walking scorers.  Additionally, other volunteer opportunities include: construction, driving range, volunteer services, parking, transportation, security, admissions, and A-TEAM.  The Pete Dye Classic has always relied heavily upon the involvement of volunteers from across the State of West Virginia and beyond.  "Our goal is to be the premier event on the Nationwide Tour," Child said.  "We've set the bar pretty high in years past and hope to expand our outreach to the local community through the tournament's volunteer efforts and charitable giving."

Volunteers can register online at www.petedyeclassic.com for a $30 donation.  The volunteer package includes: a commemorative Pete Dye Classic golf shirt and hat; a volunteer tournament pass (valid all week); a weekly tournament pass for a guest; an invitation to a volunteer appreciation party; food and refreshments while volunteering; 10% off Nationwide Insurance policies; and a free round of golf any day from September 1st to October 20th, 2007 (a minimum of [4] shifts apply).
