PGATOUR.COM's newest columnist, the cryptically nicknamed Man in the Black Hat, will write a weekly fashion column focusing on TOUR players and the apparel they wear out on the course.

There are some words that are just plain fun to say.

Like Cool Whip, and like Aquascutum.

Founded in 1851, nine years before Wille Park Sr. defeated Old Tom Morris on the 12-hole course at Prestwick for the first Open Championship, Aquascutum (not Cool Whip) boasts a rich, diverse history born on the premise of providing stylish protection from the unpredictable British weather.

Though some 159 years late for Park and Morris, Aquascutum has now extended its range to golf, with dashing Australian Adam Scott as their front man, who last week finished tied for ninth in The Barclays, the first leg of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.

After Scott's previous supplier decided to discontinue its golf range, he spent much of 2010 playing without an apparel contract. While this was hardly a significant burden for one to bear, the delayed shift from one famous UK brand to another created moderate style waves when Scott favoured the sportier, somewhat more fashion forward Polo RLX as his interim choice.

One of Scott's favorite pieces from the collection is this waterproof rain jacket.

Since the week of the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach however, Scott has been all Aquascutum all the time, save for his trusty FJ Icons. Far from sporty and even further from flashy, one look at Aquascutum's initial foray into the golf apparel game shows that it is a brand of classic lines and distinction.

The Man in the Black Hat recently had the chance to chat with Adam via e-mail to discuss his move to Aquascutum, along with trench coats, girlfriends, and what he wears on his trips to the mall.

Q: The Black Hat has to know, did you sign up with Aquascutum for the free trench coats, or because Aquascutum is just plain fun to say?!

ADAM SCOTT: The trench coats are sweet but getting to hear people try and say it is pretty funny... it's not that hard though, c'mon brush up on your Latin!

Q: Indeed! A quick search of the interwebs reveals that the name Aquascutum originates from the two Latin words 'aqua' (water) and 'scutum' (shield). Latin is easy! So, with all trench coats aside, what was it that drew you to Aquascutum?

SCOTT: Aquascutum is a great brand with a lot of history and tradition... Something that fits well with the game of golf. To start a golf line with them is a great opportunity to fill a gap in the golf apparel market with some really good gear!

Q: What, or who, is your biggest style influence, aside from The Man In The Black Hat?

SCOTT: I think my style has been influenced by lots of different people over the years from designers to girlfriends but overall I would say Europe has been the biggest influence in my style.

Q: Girlfriends certainly do have a way of steering us in a certain direction! Do you have a favorite piece or three from the new Aquascutum Golf collection that you wear more often than anything else?

SCOTT: The waterproof rain jacket with the Aquascutum around the collar is an amazing jacket. Not only stylish with high collar but is by far the best waterproof suit I have ever played in. The shirts are very nice also with a lot of little details through the collar. Nice sweaters too!

Q: Let's say you're out and about during a week off, running standard errands - going to Bed, Bath & Beyond and Home Depot. You know, really exciting stuff and we just happen to run into each other (again!), this time at the food court over at the mall. What might you be wearing?

SCOTT: It depends what country we are in. In Australia it will be board shorts and T-shirt. I am so laid back at home, I basically live at the beach and dress accordingly. In Europe at home I would be in a pair of jeans with t-shirt and some kind of jacket or something like that. I am a pretty casual guy but enjoy getting dressed up on occasion!

For those of us looking to emulate the Scott's new look, we'll have to keep our proverbial belts buckled until Spring of 2011, when the Aquascutum Golf range becomes available at retail. Until that time, we'll have to be satisfied repeating "Aquascutum" aloud, because as mentioned, it's fun to say. Go ahead, try it.

See what I mean!?

Martin Laird of Scotland is one of a growing number of players on the PGA TOUR who wears a custom belt and custom milled buckle from 59belts.com. Laird's buckle patriotically features The Saltire and what looks to be a family coat of arms. ...

It was interesting to see @Ianjamespoulter and @bubbawatson react to the inaugural Man In The Black Hat column last week ranking the best dressers in the Playoffs. While Bubba was happy to find himself in the sixth slot, Poulter was left to ponder the second seeding he received. ...

Perhaps the most puzzling cross promotional accessory of the year goes to D.A. Points, who was once again rocking the Lego belt buckle at The Barclays as he did at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, leaving one to wonder if it is really possible to rock a Lego. Black Hat thinks not. ...
