PGATOUR.COM will have expert picks and sleepers for each Nationwide Tour event this year. Our experts -- Nationwide Tour producer Ceri Mobley and marketing assistant Jordan Crampton, who formerly worked for the Nationwide Tour -- will each choose two players they consider favorites that week and a sleeper pick (a player who is not inside "THE 25"). Here are their selections for this week's Athens Regional Foundation Classic. |
|
| Crampton's picks | Mobley's picks |
| Martin Piller. This Tour rookie has been off to a great start in '09. The former A&M Aggie has put himself in position to win twice already this season, if he keeps knocking on the door on Sunday, he will eventually break through and Win. |
Vance Veazey. Looking great this season already with one win and a tie for third, it was comforting to find that No. 2 on the money list tied for fourth at Jennings Mill in 2008. That's enough to put him on my picks wish list. |
| Bubba Dickerson. Dickerson has made five of six cuts this season and already has a Win in '09. Don't be surprised if he notches his second victory of the season in Athens, where he finished solo-sixth last year. |
Henrik Bjornstad. My worthy adversary, Jordan, had a thing for Bjornstad early in the season. Sinch Henrik tied for ninth at last year's Athens Regional Foundation Classic, I think I'll pick up where Crampton left off. |
|
| Crampton's sleeper | Mobley's sleeper |
| Nick Flanagan. After a solid finish at the Stonebrae Classic, I am sticking with Flanagan as my sleeper. This three-time Nationwide Tour Winner is finding his form again and will need to win if he wants to get back to the PGA TOUR. |
Michael Putnam. Michael Putnam hasn't made much noise on Tour yeat this season -- his best finish was a tie for 29th at Moonah -- and he's only 81st on the money list, but he tied for seventh here in '09, so he knows the course well. |
|
LAST WEEK: Crampton scored the first victory last week with his pick of Aussie Michael Sim who owned the Stonebrae Classic with a five-stroke victory, closing the gap to about $15,000.
